These little rodents prefer to live in burrows outside. The common north american ground squirrel aka chipmunk go for nuts. They ruin expensive landscaping uproot garden plants and even make their way under retaining walls home foundations and decks. It is not uncommon however for a chipmunk to accidentally enter a home because its burrow is beneath the step or foundation.

Chipmunks can also fit into natural openings like vents chimneys and pipes.
